OT6 July 25, 2008

MR4 July 29, 2008

Come early!

* * *

OT2 – Jul 18: White Eagles vs Aylmer 4 : 3

It was a tough game and early on, we had a hard time getting out of our half. But we scored the first goal on a breakaway goal by Mirek. Our second goal came after a faul in the box and the subsequent penalty kick, executed by Josef. But then Aylmer had a pk too and just before the break, they tied 2:2 on a lucky rebound. In the second half the players of both teams would engage in angry exchanges, but we had the upper hand on the field, even if our defense had a hard time containing Aylmer's fast strikers. We were the better team this day.

OT4 – Jul 18: Hull Dynamo vs White Eagles 3 : 2

Rain was always threatening and sometimes falling on us, making the field quite wet and muddy in places. Our regular keeper and our usual substitute were both missing, so Jimmy played in front of the woodwork. He was outstanding, moving forward aggressively on the balls played through which allowed the defence to shorten the field. We gave up the first goal but Peter Lasia brought us even by the half. Unfortunately, we had a poor spell early in the second half and surrendered two quick goals. Peter got a second goal late in the half to bring us within one, but we didn't maintain the pressure and failed to equalize. A good effort from the team, with a little bad luck.

* * *

OT6 – Jul 18: White Eagles vs Lynwood Centennials 2 : 4

We lost 4 : 2....We were missing a few key players, but only when we started yelling at and angered the referee, did we seal our fate. And we could have won this game...

* * *

MC3 – Jul 16: White Eagles vs Lynwood Centennials 4 : 1

Two very balanced team fought it out early on and we could have been down 1 in 2min, after a defensive mistake. The Eagles played chaotically, which allowed Lynwood to mount dangerous counterattacks. Eventually, the team settled down and took control of the game. We moved up and finally, scored after Dominik received a beauty pass from the midfield to the right and took a hard shot. He went for the far post, the ball struck the wood and went in. The Centennials tied with a flimsy shot just inside the far post as our goalie view was obstructed by crowding defenders. But Claudio made up for it by blocking a penalty shot a few minutes later. Just before half-time, Marco Lopez put us ahead - 2:1. After the break we were entirely in control and Marco and Dominik scored another goal each to set the score at 4 : 1.

MR4 – Jul 15: Spitfires vs White Eagles 2 : 1

* * *

OT2 – Jul 11: White Eagles vs OSU 7 : 3

* * *

OT4 – Jul 11: White Eagles vs Prescott Gunners 0 : 12

We had a good turn out for the team photos and that went very well. After that it was not so good. The Gunners scored early and scored often. We had some moments of ball control, particularly at the start of the second half, but never really tested their keeper. After the game we found out that the Gunners are a new team working their way up the divisions, aiming for OT1. White Eagles OT2 can expect to meet this team soon.

* * *

MC3 – Jul 09: White Eagles vs OISC Red Devils 0 : 1

* * *

MR4 – Jul 08: White Eagles vs Ottawa Raiders 2 : 5

* * *

OT2 – Jul 04: White Eagles vs Hellenic 5 : 3

* * *

OT4 – Jul 04: Kanata Glens vs White Eagles 1 : 7

We finally had a full team out for a game, with 6 substitutes. Coach Jackson had us playing a 4-5-1 formation, which was an excellent tactical choice. The game started slowly, with both teams moving in slow motion. Kanata seemed to walk the ball down to our end for the first goal of the game, and their only goal as it turned out. We picked up the pace and took complete control of the game. Peter Lasia served such a perfect cross into the box that the Kanata defender headed it into his own net for our first goal. There followed goals from Peter, Sola and a marvellous run and goal from our half by centre defender Andy Jackson and it was 1-4 at the half. We continued our dominance in the second half with Sola scoring once and Peter scoring twice, once with a powerful header on a corner from Zbigniew. We were so dominant that our score could have been in double digits.

Board Meeting on Jul 02, 2008

Current affairs: Outstanding fees, need for new equipment.

Other: Our web-site is updated regularly, even if not all teams heeded immediately to the call for scores/reports. We are still not receiving anything from/about MR4 games.

There is a project to start a new feature on the web-site regarding some of our more prolific members. The idea is deemed to be good, but needs to be more elaborately developed.

The editor-in-chief expressed some concern regarding possible complaints, censorship and liabilities. The Club will not be held liable for any ideas expressed by the editor and his reporters, which are theirs and theirs only and not the Club’s. The Club will not interfere in any manner with editorial issues, providing full support for and having faith in the entire web-site staff. Any concerns should be addressed to Wlodek Ciepala, wciepala@hotmail.com.

Andy Wilk expressed his concern on the situation of our Senior teams, which have not been faring too well in recent years. It has been agreed that the Club should come up with new ideas to help the teams out. For now, general appeal to all members and friends of the White Eagles – come out and cheer for our teams, especially the Senior (youth) squads. MR4 play on Tuesday night, MC3 on Wednesdays and the OT teams on Fridays. For schedules and field locations, go to the OCSL site:

MC3 – Jul 02: CCA Printwell vs White Eagles 0 : 5

Our winless streak finally came to an end. The Eagles came down hard and Dominik Drobnik scored our first goal 10 min into the game. Kuba Kielb scored the second, after having fought hard for the ball, never giving up. We totally dominated the game and as a result, Dominik scored another goal, to make it 3:0 at the half.

After the break, Printwell fought hard trying to catch up, but we would have none of it and Marco Lopez heads a nice cross for the 4th goal. And then Dominik scores yet another goal, for his first hat-trick of the season. The entire team played a good game.[t]

OT2 – Jun 27: Nepean Hotspurs FOG - White Eagles 1 : 4

Early in the game it became obvious we were the better team and yet we just could not score.Our shots missed the target or were being blocked by the Hotspurs. Ludwik Klimkowski twice sailed in the air, but missed the target by an inch. Finally, Mirek Zajac scored two goals, one after the other, with nice technical shots. Just before the break, Nepean scored a rebound and they came out hard in the second half. However, it was Leszek Wolski who scored the next goal and the final score was set when a Nepean clumsy clearance bounced off Roman Buczkowski right into the Hotspurs goal.[d]

* * *

OT4 – Jun 27: Almonte Wildcats - White Eagles 3 : 2

Almonte had to fight hard to beat our stretched team and if only had we learned to set the off-side trap more efficiently... We put up a good battle with only 9 players. Stasz Bielec scored early when we had only 8 players. However, our RB played 3 Almonte attackers onside to allow the tying goal. We stood even at the half. As we tired in the second half, Almonte potted 2 more. A late run him down in the box. Sola converted the penalty with an unstoppable shot into the top right corner. The game ended almost immediately afterwards. Richard Hoerdt had an outstanding game filling in in goal.[p]

OT6 – Jun 27: White Eagles – Kanata Lasers 5 : 4

With a full squad and returning coach Andrzej Wilk at the head, we were confident we could easily take care of the one of the weaker teams in our division, the Kanata Lasers. But alas, it was not to be – we barely managed to squeeze a win. Even if we were the better team, we just could not score whereas Kanata just kept scoring on every chance they had. They went ahead on a lucky shot, but we tied when Wlodek Ciepala set Marcin Wieczorek for an easy tap in. We thought we would be sailing safely home when Wiesiek Baranowski scored our second goal on a shot from 25 yards, but the Lasers responded with two lucky goals, both on our defensive mistakes.

We came down hard on the Lasers in the 2nd and tied the game when Staszek Sznip headed a ball over to Wlodek, who gracefully outplayed the goalie and sent the ball into the empty net. A few minutes later, Kanata goes ahead again on another flimsy goal. We keep mounting attacks, but score only after we switch to the right, and after a quick, one touch exchange between Czesio Piasta and Dzidek Popielec, Wlodek sets up Andrzej Lichota on top of the box and he buries the ball in the net with a strong shot. The winning goal comes off a free kick after Wlodek is brought down on top of the box. Andrzej takes it and sends a curved ball above the wall, off the crossbar and into the net.

John Murray is back on the field after a year's break. John is one of the founding fathers of the White Eagles and its most active volunteer. Welcome back, John! [w]]

MR4 – Jun 24: Lynwood Centennials vs White Eagles 5 : 0

After tying the other top Lynwood team week earlier, the team succumbed to the more experienced Centennials side this Tuesday. But as coach Henry Patterson (also an OT4 player) put it, the team is coming together, the guys are very enthusiastic and overall, it is a good team.

OTTAWA CUP
MC3 – Jun 21: Nepean Hotspurs MC1 vs White Eagles MC3 8 : 1

* * *

OT2 – Jun 20: White Eagles vs Ottaw Royals 2 : 1

All three goals were scored in the second half. Even if the Royals had more possession and controlled the mid-field, they were unable to stop Mirek from breaking away and scoring the first goal. The Royals tied when our defence allowed a shot from the top of our box. But except for that shot, Kazik was the star of the day, has made a number of saves both in the first and second halves, even if playing with badly injured knee and hoping on one leg. We had our chances - Leszek had a beautiful 20+ yard shots that sailed inches above the bar. The winning goal came from Ludwik's cross into the box and the Royals' goalie clumsily punching it into his own goal. We defeated a stronger team.

* * *

OT4 – Jun 20: White Eagles vs Nepean Hotspurs Surge 4 : 3

A very tight, fiercely contested game and the first win of the season for the decimated OT4. Again, only 11 players were available this day, with two of the injured, out of the roster of 20 (the rest either away, injured or suspended). So the team welcomed the presence of Pan Wlodek Ciepala, who would be playing up from his regular OT6. That made it 12 Eagles to Nepean’s 19 Hotspurs.

It was the White Eagles that scored first, as Pan Ciepala headed Richard Hoerdt’s powerful cross into the goal in the 5th minute. The goal has urged the Surge and they come down hard, subsequently scoring twice, both goals lucky tap ins during chaotic mêlées in the box. But we managed to tie the Hotspurs, when Henry (Hui Guan) set Pan Ciepala with a beautiful through ball, which Wlodek chipped over the goalie into the goal. However, just before the break, we lost an unexpected third goal on a break away and went into the break down one – 3 : 2.

In the second half, the Hotspurs were relentlessly pressuring our tired defence led by returning Henry Patterson, but we held our ground and mounted counter-attacks. One of those saw Pan Ciepala on a breakaway in the Nepean box, pulled down from behind and the ref pointed to the spot. Wlodek took the shot himself, lower left corner, the goalie never had a chance and Pan Ciepala had his first hat trick of the season.

Furious Hotspurs kept pummelling our goalie, but to no avail and 5 min before the end of the game Piotr Lasia converted another break away with a powerful shot and the winning goal. A great and well-deserved win!

OT6 – Jun 20: Russell Raiders vs White Eagles - game cancelled

* * *

MC3 - Jun 18: White Eagles vs Lynwood Centennials 0 : 1

We lost the goal on a penalty kick after a hand in the box. But throughout the game it seemed like we lacked confidence. A lot of missed passes and very chaotic plays, mostly in the centre of the field. The players were disappointed after the game, as the team will probably be placed last in the standings now. But that leaves a lot of room for improvement! [d]

OT4 – Jun 13: Kanata Citizens vs White Eagles 5 : 2

OT6 – Jun 13: White Eagles vs Ottawa South Utd 5 : 1

A convincing win and OSU scored only when Irek Kotecki took pity on them and spilled a ball. It was the first game for Marcin Wieczorek, who joined us after a short spell of playing for OT2. Good addition, scored two goals, but has a couple things to learn yet – unlike OT2, we play a technical, passing ball. And it was good to see Rysiek Lange back with the team.

* * *

MC3 – Jun 11: CCA Stalions vs White Eagles 4 : 1

We played among the 2nd placed team and they sure taught us a lesson. They played a very fast ball, hard, first on the ball. Something we did not do and did not deserve to win. Diego Cueva scored the only goal for us, by chipping the ball over the goalie.[t]

MR4 – Jun 10: White Eagles vs Sporting Mexico 5 : 2

Board Meeting on Jun 04th, 2008

Current affairs: Registration, fees, need for new equipment.

Other: It will be our Club’s 25 Anniversary in 2009 and different options are being considered how to celebrate. One of those is a proposal to organize a mini tournament sometime in the Spring and invite teams from Hamilton and perhaps Montreal. And in the evening we would have a formal gala, with speeches and awards. We may be inviting the Montreal teams for a friendly in the Fall this year, to find out if they’d interested.

Game reports: Managers/coaches - please send short reports to Wlodek Ciepala, e-mail: wciepala@hotmail.com (in either Polish or English)

MC3 - Jun 04: White Eagles - Ottawa Royals Ukraina 1 : 2

Early in the game were trying to figure out what the other strategy was – a balanced game played mainly in the centre of the field. In the 17 minute, one of their strikers hit a beautiful header from a corner kick ball and Ukraina took the lead. After the half-time, the Eagles took control of the game and were tearing at the opponents defence. But it is them who scored again. A déjà vu – after a corner kick, an unmarked player takes a low shot to the near post and it is 0:2. The Eagles fought bravely and finally Dominik Drobnik scored with a nice, low shot from the 16 yard line. Ukraina won the game 2:1

OT6 – May 30: White Eagles – Kanata Stealth 5 : 1

The greatly anticipated first game of 2008, after the disastrous 2007 season, was played on our new home turf of Orlando West and against a team, Kanata Stealth, which has demolished us last year, but nevertheless was relegated down to the 6th Division. The team led but the assistant coach “Prusak” Kosewski” dominated the first half, in the second we seemed to have ran out of steam, and yet were still by far the better team on this day. Our defence was especially sound, led by last year’s MVP “Wacus” Stabryla.

* * *

MC3 – May 28: LCSC Blues Chelsea - White Eagles 4 : 1

The Blues took us by surprise from the start, with their speed and aggressiveness. They locked us in our first during the first quarter and in the 15 minute we lost our first goal. The home team was still very much dominating the game, but they were lucky on their next goal, which was scored of a header from a corner kick, which brushed our defender and landed in the net. It was 2:0 for Chelsea at the half. We started the second half attacking Chelsea on their half and played a far better game. But it is Chelsea that scored their 3rd goal after a defensive mistake. With nothing to loose, we moved up and after one of those counter-attacks, Marco Lopez found himself in a one-on-one with the Blues goalie and scored. We kept on fighting, but gain it is Chelsea that scored for the final score of 4:1.

MR4 – May 27: White Eagles – Rockers 0 : 8

* * *

MC3 – May 21: Kemptville Kougars - White Eagles 0 : 3

The first game of the season was pretty chaotic. The teams fought for the ball mainly in the centre of the field. That is until Kuba Kielb took the ball down the left flank and scored a goal from about 20 yards. The opponents responded but aggressively confronting our players, but again we were the lucky side, when Jay Hill took the ball down the right side and buried it in the net in the 20th minute. In the second half Kemptville mounted numerous attacks, but we managed to control the game in front of our goal and have restricted ourselves to mounting quick counter-attacks. In the 80th minute, after a neat play and a cross, Dominik Drobnik buried the ball in the net with a strong volley to establish the final score at 3:0. Not a bad start to the season!
